Howard R. Mzumara, Ph.D. is Director of the Testing Center and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). Dr. Mzumara joined the IUPUI Testing Center in June, 1995 following completion of doctoral studies at the University of Toronto, Canada. His areas of specialization are in educational measurement, evaluation, and computer applications. As director of the Testing Center, Dr. Mzumara's primary responsibilities include providing measurement and evaluation expertise to the IUPUI community. His research interests include applied measurement, program evaluation, evaluation of Web-based assessment tools, classroom assessment, automated essay grading, and computerized adaptive testing. Some of the journals in which his research has appeared include the Journal of Educational Computing Research, Assessment & Evaluation in Education, Assessment Update, and Journal of Career Assessment.

Dr. Mzumara is an active member in several professional associations including the American Educational Research Association (AERA), National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), the American Evaluation Association (AEA), the American Psychological Association (APA, Division 5), and the Association for Institutional Research (AIR). In addition to being a past president of the Measurement Services SIG (AERA) and program chair for the Assessment in Higher Education TIG (AEA), Dr. Mzumara is currently serving on three national committees of the American Evaluation Association. As a private consultant, Dr. Mzumara serves as a Psychometrician and Member of the Advisory Panel, Indiana Commission on Continuing Legal Education, State of Indiana Supreme Court, and Psychometric Consultant for the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology Examinations.
