Call for Proposals
We are no longer accepting Call for Proposals. The deadline has passed.
- Notifications will be sent after May 8, 2009.
- If your proposal is accepted for a presentation at the Institute, presenters and co-presenters are expected to pay registration fees and will need to register for the Institute via the Institute website beginning in June 2009.
About the Institute
The Assessment Institute in Indianapolis is the nation´s oldest and largest event focused exclusively on Outcomes Assessment in Higher Education and is designed to provide opportunities for:
- individuals and campus teams new to outcomes assessment to acquire foundation knowledge about the field,
- individuals who have worked as leaders in outcomes assessment to extend their knowledge and skills,
- those interested in outcomes assessment at any level to establish networks that serve as sources of support and expertise beyond the dates of the Institute.
How to plan your Institute experience
The Institute is designed to introduce you to innovations in assessment that you can use. You may choose concurrent workshops that provide a more in-depth perspective on a particular topic or the Best Practices Presentations to gather ideas about specific instruments or techniques. Be sure to make some time for networking and enjoying the city of Indianapolis.
What you´ll learn at the Institute
You will learn about new techniques, approaches, and ideas in a variety of outcomes assessment areas, including general education and major fields as well as civic engagement, student development, and electronic portfolios, each of which has its own track throughout the schedule. Several sessions are designed for beginners and others are for the more experienced practitioner.
Who should attend the Assessment Institute
Faculty, student affairs professionals, and administrators who have an interest in or responsibility for assessment should attend. Maximize the benefit of the Institute for your institution by bringing a campus team.

Registration and Hotel
Institute registration will begin in mid July, 2009. Additional information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
The Westin Indianapolis (Institute Site) - Rooms are reserved at The Westin Indianapolis, 50 South Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46204. The number of rooms Institute rooms is limited. Reservations can be made by calling 1-317-262-8100, or through the Westin Central Reservation Offices at 1-800-937-8461. Be sure to identify yourself as attending the 2009 Assessment Institute to be eligible to receive the conference rate. The hotel deadline to obtain these rates is September 25, 2009.
The Westin Indianapolis Room Rates:
Single Occupancy: $135 + tax Double Occupancy: $135 + tax Triple Occupancy: $155 + tax Quad Occupancy: $155 + tax
Early Hotel Departure Fee:
There will be an early departure fee of one night's room and tax in the event that you check out prior to your reserved check-out date. Guests wishing to avoid this fee must advise the hotel at or before check-in of any change in the scheduled length of stay.

While you are attending the Assessment Institute, please consider attending the sixth annual 2009 ISSOTL Conference at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana October 22-25, 2009.
The theme of "Solid Foundations, Emerging Knowledge, Shared Futures" invites scholars of teaching and learning from around the world to share their evidence-based insights and theoretical frameworks for how to teach today's students to be tomorrow's most prepared citizens.
